Description
Jacqueline, a cultural heritage guide, accompanies you on two half-day visits to the Baroque chapels and churches, fortified sites and passageways and the villages constructed in wood, stone and laminated shale.
You will be charmed by Bonneval-sur-Arc, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, with its solid stone dwellings featuring massive wooden beams, nestled at the foot of the Iseran pass that links the Maurienne and Tarantaise valleys.
As you follow the "Baroque Roads," you will visit Bessans, the village of legendary devils.
You can't help but be captivated by this harmonious land, marked with the traces left by the successive civilizations that have modeled the terrority throughout the ages, leaving behind precious artistic remains.
Program
Day 1:
Arrival around 4 pm. Gathering at the Tourism Office of the village of Val Cenis Lanslebourg Mont-Cenis, where you will receive a welcome folder. Installation at your hotel.
Following days:
We have reserved two half-days of guided tours with a cultural heritage guide. These visits are accessible to all. The explanations of the guide will gives you the keys to understanding the particularities of life in the mountains in Haute Maurienne throughout the centuries.
• One half-day on "From Builders to Painters and Sculptors:" Discovery of the religious heritage from medieval and Baroque times, as well as the traditional architure of the villages of Bonneval, Bessans, Val Cenis Lanslevillard: wall paintings from the 15th century; Baroque furnishings from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, sculpted, painted and gilded with gold leaf; typical dwelling specific to mountain villages, with laminated shale roofs, walls of stone and wood, at Bonneval, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
• Another half-day on "Passages and Fortified Sites of Haute Maurienne:" with the barrier formed by the five forts of the Esseillon and the Mont Cenis plateau: Marie-Christine fort and the Marie-Thérèse redoubt, descent of the "Devil's Bridge," presentation of the passage through the passes and fortifications of Mont-Cenis.
Lodging
In a two-star hotel on the basis of a double room.
The hotel is found in the center of the village of Val Cenis Lanslebourg, whose history is tied to the transalpine passageway through the mythical Mont Cenis pass.
Completely renovated, the establishment features 17 cozy rooms in attractive surroundings, with a view over the glaciers and alpine prairies in a calm environment.
The surroundings are warm and the friendly welcome and availability of the proprietors will facilitate your knowledge of the land. Excellent traditional mountain cusisine.
