Discover the ibex
The ibex almost disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century, menaced by too-intensive hunting at the time. In France, the ibex was saved thanks to the creation of the Vanoise National Park in 1963.
In Haute Maurienne Vanoise, you are at the heart of the Vanoise National Park; it is thus easy to observe these large mammals whose horns measure up to a meter and weight up to six kilos!
How do you see an ibex or recognize it?
The ibex can be observed on rocky and generally inaccessible sites. The summer fur of the male is an iron gray color; in winter, it darkens and becomes dark brown. Females have light chestnut-colored fur.
